Larry,

I have never forgotten your jounalistic and moral courage and I am embarrased to have lost track with you and Toni...so this is a general comment of respect for your writing and hoping we can connect again soon. I am heading a Children's Iniative at the Central Arkansas Library System and teaching at the Clinton School of Public Service...I just ordered your book.

I trust you and family are well....

Religion's masochastic assurances fail when the pain gets a real face. Instead of looking for answers in nature, we try to hide in God's closet where a single answer (no matter how absurd) suffices.

Perhaps humans can put their large brains (of which scientists love to brag) to work and see that disasters are natural and loss must be accepted once it comes. No need to look for verbal soothers but just a call for better cooperation and communal efforts for rehabilitation.

Good reason for it to work - with exercise the body produces it's own antidepressants or endorphins that usually help reduce depression. Early treatments for depression in mental hospitals actually included work - not only did it get people moving, it gave them some dignity as well. Nice blog.
